Training

The GIMEMA Foundation promotes and organises professional training courses specially designed for young people, covering topics of primary importance for anyone looking to access the complex world of clinical research.

In addition to the courses, the training and awareness activities also rely on informative editorial material (handouts, newsletters, brochures) and communication campaigns targeting the public at large via web channels, Facebook and Twitter/X.

GIMEMA Training, webinars and lectures

The Foundation promotes webinars and lectures that address the main issues surrounding clinical trials:

  • designing and drafting a research protocol;
  • technical, scientific, regulatory and ethical aspects of a study;
  • statistical concepts used for  result analysis;
  • using software to manage clinical trial databases;

The courses are designed for all professional figures involved in the clinical trial process.

Master’s degree in haematological and oncological clinical trial management

The aim of the Master’s degree, organised in collaboration with the Roma Tor Vergata University, is to provide appropriate professional training in the management of  haematological and oncological clinical trials which entails acquiring an overall view of the new therapeutic trends, recognising their biomedical specificity so they may competently perform clinical research activities.

The training programme focuses on the biomedical and clinical bases of the most modern haematological and oncological therapeutic strategies and subsequently takes an in-depth look at the responsibilities and operational scope of the various professional figures involved in the clinical trial process.

GIMEMA Virtual Microscope

GIMEMA Virtual Microscope (GVM) is an interactive e-learning platform that makes an innovative virtual microscope available to be used on the web to undertake cytomorphological study of peripheral blood and aspirated bone marrow.

Up to now the project has developed two training paths:

Percorsi di Citomorfologia (Cytomorphological Pathways)” which enables the unification of the theory with practical microscopic analysis of haematological cells despite taking place entirely online, thanks to the GIMEMA-microscope software.

Percorsi di anatomo patologia (Pathological Anatomy Pathways)” that provides pathologists with the chance to engage with experts on the Scientific Board – which includes  Emanuela Boveri, Umberto Giannelli, Maurilio Ponzoni and Elena Sabattini who can help in assessing specific clinical cases.

The GIMEMA Virtual Microscope (GVM) includes to essential components: the innovative GIMEMA-microscope digital software and the e-learning platform. The first is a web-based high-resolution visualiser of haematological cell images; a virtual microscope capable of handling layers and FOVs and activating zoom and magnifying glass options. The e-learning platform section offers training courses with automatic assessment and feedback.
