Mission

The focus of the GIMEMA Foundation’s research is on the healing and quality of life of patients suffering from blood diseases.

The GIMEMA Foundation conducts and coordinates independent clinical studies in the field of haematological diseases in adults to improve the standards of treatment for haematological patients.

What GIMEMA does

The main aim of GIMEMA research is to optimise therapeutic strategies for the treatment of blood diseases:

The purpose of the clinical studies conducted by the Foundation are:

  • defining the risks and benefits of drugs approved  for the treatment of blood diseases;
  • identifying the most effective combinations of drugs or their sequential use;
  • decide on the best therapies available to patients.

Thanks to the Foundation’s clinical studies, over the years  many innovative drugs have been made available to haematological patients that are not available in Italy (many of which are next generation drugs), as they are not yet on sale or haven’t yet been authorised by the regulating authorities.

The GIMEMA Foundation is completely independent and not-for-profit. It also ensures that all the results of its experiments are made public to guarantee their transparency both towards the scientific community and the patients.

The GIMEMA Foundation coordinates national network that includes almost all Italian haematological centres and many standardised labs, spread over the entire country.

The Data Centre is the operational hub that coordinates all of the Foundation’s research activities.
